Life Thur the Lens 27/52... Happy 4th of July, and a Little Art Randomness
Today it is the 4th of July; happy Independence Day to my American friends.
I have already mentioned Art Alley before, but I thought I would leave these current additions with you. The alley is fluid and changes with each new vibe (or cultural event) happening at the time.
My favorite piece of art is now painted over in the alley, but that is okay because I found this piece of inspiration.
The city talked about shutting the alley down to artists. I am thrilled to say that the art community fought back and came to a compromise with a permit system. Not everyone follows it, I think there is always a bit of rebellion deeply embedded in artists, but for the most part it is a great success.
There are a few buildings who have chosen not to be a part of Art Alley, which I think is futile. I say embrace the creative side of life... or like an artist painted, "We are not painting, we are perfecting." Embrace the perfection.
Tips for visiting Art Alley...
~You can find it in the ally between 6th and 7th street.
~Parking is metered downtown Rapid City, so bring quarters.
~Be sure to walk around the city center after you visit Art Alley, it is bustling with historical architecture and kitschy stores.
~If you are in the mood for a treat stop by Main Street Square for a yummy coffee, or a smoothie at Alternative Fuel Coffee House. But, if you are looking for something a little more delectable you cannot go wrong at the Silver Lining Creamery, our favorite ice cream shop in town.
